April Newsletter 2021: Looking for a pilgrimage in nature

Are you looking for a physical challenge that also inspires you? Then maybe you like to consider walking the 4th Camino of Aruba? Or maybe you are interested to walk the Camino to Santiago de Compostela? Both are beautiful pilgrimages that will give you insights, stories and metaphors that often stay with you for the rest of your life. And I gladly share such a story with you.

In 2017 I decided to walk to Santiago de Compostela again. This time via the more difficult Northern route. Initially I felt as prepared as the first time but soon I realized that I ignored some of the lessons learned. On this 7th day I arrive around midday in a beach town and have difficulties to find a place to overnight. It was very busy and even though it was still a long way to go to the next Albergue, I decided to continue walking.

After a half hour walking, I enter a small village and see 3 scary dogs walking in the streets. Instantly I froze as they ran towards me, loudly barking. Before I know it, I’m surrounded by the loudly barking dogs. For a moment I do nothing. And then I start yelling “Hola”, but nobody shows up and the dogs keep barking at me non-stop. But then from a distance I hear a pilgrim shout “Caminar”.  I look up and see the pilgrim at the Chapel above me. And I thought “What a great idea” and started walking. The dogs moved away as if nothing happened.
